RASK Undiscovered

The Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya and Serengeti National Park in Northern Tanzania may well be one of the most world-renowned classic safari experiences. And while RASK likes to do things differently, we couldn’t recommend a better combination for your first, second or third time on safari. Here we suggest that you make the most of the ‘emerald months’: lush green life teeming with floral and faunal abundance everywhere, and what’s better, the lack of crowds. There’s a reason it’s called the ‘secret season’… don’t miss out!

Day 1: Nairobi

Arrive in Nairobi and enjoy one night in the bustling city at the luxurious Villa Rosa Kempinski.

Day 2: Nairobi – Mara North

Today, travel from Nairobi to Mara North and settle at Serian, The Original

Day 3-5: Mara North Conservancy: Serian, The Original

Serian is the first of Alex’s charismatic camps, and it’s set along the banks of the Mara, bursting with laughing pods of languorous hippo. ‘Mara’ is the Maasai word for ‘dotted’, and indeed this rich zone is littered with wildlife wherever you look – famed for its sheer density of game, this is the perfect location to kick off your safari. Explore in one of our safari vehicles, or take a walk on the wild side and head out on foot –both will bring different levels and layers to your experience… And top it off with a nocturnal adventure: take a bush dinner and red-filter spotlights and discover what the wilderness has to offer by way of nightlife. One of just 11 member camps in the private and exclusive Serian consists of six vast marquees perched on beautiful hardwood decking – one of which is a family suite. Each is unique, with bush bathrooms offering a view of the river as you soak in your tub.

Day 6: Fly to Northern Serengeti: Nomad’s Lamai

Today fly to Northern Serenget and settle at Nomad’s Lamai.

Day 7: Northern Serengeti: Nomad’s Lamai

Heading down the wilderness, you will hop across the border into Tanzania’s Serengeti plains. Nomad’s camp is named after the ‘LamaiWedge’ –a golden triangle defined by the Kenyan border on top, and the Mara River below, and remarkable for the beauty of the landscape as well as for fantastic sightings of predators and black rhino. With the plains to yourself, absorb the mesmerising savannah, and spend quality time seeking out and hanging with animals. Have a picnic under a tree: channel the full – bellied lions and gaze up at the sunlight dappling through the leaves.

Day 8: Fly to Southern Serengeti

Today, fly to Southern Serengeti and settle at Serian’s Serengeti South

Day 9-11: Serian’s Serengeti South

Leaving the Mara River behind, Serian’s Serengeti South camp takes you to the extremetip of the savannah. Set on the edge of the short-grass plains that host the million-strong wildebeest birthing season, it’s hard to imagine a more stunning location to wrap up your adventure. Dramatic storms sweep in new life, and babies and attendant predators are everywhere. Flora bursts forth, fields of wildflowers bloom, and the striking contrast of red Masaiagainst the emerald background makes for a perfect palette. Part of the beauty of this spot is the Masaiway of life in its most natural state –and the other part is the opportunity to explore on foot: stretch your legs and open your senses to immersion in this wild space, as our local guides show you to see through their eyes. Serian’s Serengeti South strikes the perfect balance between colonial camping style, and elegant accents of comfort – home away from home, in the form of 6 spacious, lavish tents with en-suite bathrooms including a bucket shower and flushing toilet.

Day 12: Ndutu to Nairobi

Departure from Ndutu to Nairobi and flight home or add one more night in Nairobi at Villa Rosa Kempinski

Leave in plenty of time for a leisurely game drive to the abundant Ndutu area, and catch at least one more spectacular sighting before boarding the plane back home.
