Why This Aman Hotel is Perfect for a New York City Break

Apr 30, 2026

There are luxury hotel brands, and then there’s Aman.

It’s never been about scale. The portfolio is deliberately measured, each property shaped by its setting rather than a fixed formula. The result is consistent, but never identical.

You see it in places like Amanpuri, where the brand began, or Amangiri in the Utah desert. Aman Tokyo proved the approach could work in a vertical city setting, without losing what makes it distinct.

That thinking is still evolving. New projects are underway in Miami Beach and Beverly Hills, alongside a growing focus on residences and wellness spaces.

At RASK, we work closely with Aman. It’s a relationship built on a shared understanding of what matters in a stay – space, pace, and a sense of place that holds up beyond first impressions.

An Aman hotel city break is where that approach becomes more visible.

New York has never been short of good hotels, but it approaches the city differently. It’s less about where you stay, and more about how the pace of the city shifts around you.

Our founder, Jonas, headed over for a wonderful city break, checking into Aman New York – set inside the Crown Building on Fifth Avenue.

First Impressions

An iconic location on Fifth Avenue, right across from the Louis Vuitton flagship and just a couple of blocks from Central Park. It’s set inside the Crown Building, which has had a full transformation. The entrance is incredibly discreet – you could walk past it without noticing – but once you’re in, it’s a completely different atmosphere. Calm, quiet, and far removed from the pace outside.

That shift is a big part of what defines an Aman hotel city break. In a city like New York, where everything is loud, fast and on display, the low-key entrance feels deliberate rather than design-led. It draws a clear line between the street and the stay.

That contrast is what stands out.

Fifth Avenue is constant movement – traffic, footfall, noise. The entrance doesn’t acknowledge any of it. You step off the street and the shift is immediate.

There’s no sense of arrival from the outside. No frontage competing for attention. In this part of Manhattan, that’s unusual.

Everything is held back until you’re inside, and that changes how the stay begins.

What Stood Out

All suites have fireplaces, which really add warmth – both in terms of heat and the overall feel of the space. It makes a difference, especially in the evenings, and gives the room a more residential edge rather than feeling like a typical hotel suite. The spa, gym and pool are simply exceptional. Properly done, not just added in as an afterthought. You get the sense they’re a core part of the experience rather than something to fill space.

This is where an Aman hotel city break starts to separate itself slightly. In a city like New York, wellness spaces are often compressed or treated as secondary. Here, they’re given proper scale.

The pool stands out for the space around it as much as the design itself. You’re not dealing with tight layouts or overcrowding, which isn’t always a given in Manhattan. The same runs through the spa and gym – everything is laid out in a way that allows it to function properly, rather than just exist.

It’s a quieter kind of luxury. Less about statement, more about how the space holds up when it’s actually being used.

A Typical Day at Aman

Breakfast on the terrace or in the suite – it’s always included at Aman New York, and it’s stupendously good. No need to rush it either, It sets the tone for the day. Mid-morning, it’s easy to head out – a gallery, MoMA, or a walk through Central Park. Bergdorf Goodman is directly across the street if shopping is on the agenda, which makes things very straightforward.

Lunch is equally simple. There’s no shortage of good options within walking distance, so you’re not over-planning the day around reservations or travel time. Afternoons tend to reset. A session in the gym, followed by time by the pool. It’s an easy rhythm to fall into.

Evenings usually start back at the hotel. Drinks, then dinner in one of the restaurants, which are reserved for guests and members. It keeps things contained. There’s also a jazz club in the basement, which is open to all, but it still feels tucked away. If you do feel like venturing out, the location does a lot of the work. You’re within reach of everything you could want.

Who The Hotel Works For

This isn’t the place for unruly children running around. It’s geared more towards adults or families travelling at a quieter pace. That said, it’s not anti-family – it just suits a certain type of stay.

That positioning fits with an Aman hotel city break. The overall tone of the hotel is calm and controlled, and that carries through into the shared spaces.

It’s less about rules and more about atmosphere. If you’re after something lively or high-energy, this probably isn’t it. If you value space, quiet and a slower pace, it makes more sense.

Jonas visited in April, which suited the stay. The city had started to open up for spring, without the intensity of peak summer. It allowed for a better balance, with time out in New York that didn’t feel rushed.

What stayed with him was how well everything came together. The service held a consistent level throughout, and the overall experience felt joined up from start to finish. It’s not always the case in a city setting, where things can feel fragmented.

It also felt distinct from anything else in New York. There’s a lot of competition at this level, but this sits slightly apart. It lives up to the reputation without feeling inaccessible. The rooms, all suites, play a big part in that. Generous, well designed, and easy to settle into.

With more Aman openings on the way globally, this feels like a clear example of how the brand is translating into city stays.
